You Will Need
- Baking Soda Or Sodium Bicarbonate
- A Clean Rag Or A Towel
- Cold Water
- Mattress Cleaning Soap Or Detergent
- White Vinegar
- Vacuum Cleaner
Now that you have everything for removing the urine smell and stain from the mattress, let’s go for the mattress cleaning.
STEP-1
Let’s start the mattress cleaning by discarding the bedsheet for washing as soon as possible. Urine stains are hard to remove once dried. Therefore, if you act quickly, you will remove the stain effortlessly. However, even after washing properly, the urine stain does not go away, you have to proceed to the next step.
STEP-2
Now coming to the mattress, first, you have to take a clean cloth or tissue and soak the urine off as much as you can. It will help you in removing the excess moisture off the mattress. So, the bottom of the bedding does not get wet. However, make sure not to scrub while soaking the excess. The vigorous scrubbing may ruin the texture. Also, while wiping the excess off, make sure to use a clean cloth or a fresh tissue. Otherwise, you will end up spreading the urine.
STEP-3
After you have soaked the excess urine off, if the stain persists, you have to use baking soda or sodium bicarbonate for removing the urine stain. The kitchen item is effective in removing the urine smell from the mattress. For the solution, you can take a bowl and add 2 portions of cold water, one portion of white vinegar, and a few tablespoons of detergent. Mix all the substances altogether. The consistency of the cleaning solution will be easy to spray all over the stained area of the mattress. Once you spray the solution, let it rest for a while. So the solution gets into the mattress.
STEP-4
After you keep the mixture leave to rest for about 15 minutes, take a clean cloth or a rag and blot the excess away. Don’t forget to use a fresh cloth while wiping the excess off. After all, you don’t want to spread the urine on the clean part of the mattress.
STEP-5
After blotting the excess solution from the stained area, sprinkle baking soda all over that area generously. Allow the baking soda to soak the moisture from that wet area. You have to keep the baking soda like that for about 10 minutes. However, raw baking soda is not a good thing for your kids and pets. Therefore, keep your little ones away from the room for a while.
STEP-6
At the last step of urine smell and stain removal from the mattress, you have to remove the baking soda from the mattress. You can use tissue paper in front of the vacuum cleaner and run the system on low power to grab all the lost powder. If you have a blow dryer, you can also use it to remove the powder. Once you are satisfied with the cleaning, dust off the excess cleaning residues, and your neat, clean, and stain-free mattress is ready to use.
